Bernadette Musundi rose to fame in 2017 after she was elected the Chairperson of the Selection Panel that identified and vetted candidates for the positions of Chairperson and Commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops member would then lead the selection panel into identifying and subsequently submitting the nominees to the then-President Uhuru Kenyatta for their subsequent appointment.

As the chairperson of the nine-member panel, she backed the team's choice of Wafula Chebukati for the position of chairman.

Chebukati would go on to serve his full term of six years as chairman of IEBC leaving the commission with quorum hitches with only one remaining commissioner Irene Masit.
