A sombre mood clouded the burial of the five babies who died a day after they were born at the Nakuru Level Five Hospital on Wednesday, February 1.

Margaret Wairimu, the mother of the quintuplets, missed the event, with reports indicating that she was admitted.

She was also yet to come to terms with the demise of the babies who attracted nationwide interest.

On Thursday, February 2, her family members confirmed that she was recovering from the shock and was undertaking therapy sessions offered at the facility.

However, the father- Simon Ndung'u, led family members and friends in paying the last respect to the five babies at the interment ceremony.

The bodies of the four girls and one boy were collected by the family's kin at 1:00 pm and put in one medium-sized casket before their burial at the cemetery.

Also in attendance were the representatives of 2NK Sacco, where the father is employed as a driver.

Bahati Member of Parliament Irene Njoki, who was actively seen supporting the family since the news broke, was represented in the interment ceremony by her team.

The MP expressed her condolences to the family and promised to sustain her support to the family in the difficult time of recovering from the loss.

“My sympathy goes to the mother of the babies Mrs Margaret Wangui and their Dad Simon Ndung’u. I wish the family peace, comfort, courage and lots of love at this time of sorrow.

"My office will support the parents and the family during this difficult time," the MP stated.

The babies developed complications before eventually dying on Thursday. According to the representatives of the Nakuru Level Five Hospital, the babies were born prematurely hence narrowing the chances of their survival.
