A video of a funeral procession elicited mixed reactions in Kenya on Saturday, April 22, after a series of police were seen escorting high-end cars in convoy.
The procession, coming from Lee Funeral Home near Nairobi Hospital and along Argwings Kodhek Road, was captured by a biker's dashcam.
Speculation about the deceased being escorted to his final resting place in a show of wealth and affluence was rife.
The body was carried inside a customized Jaguar X7 owned by Lee Funeral Home, available at a market price of Ksh17 million.
In the convoy, two Rolls Royce Ghosts were escorted by police bikers who cleared the road.
Rolls-Royce Ghost is a British full-size luxury car resembling German-made BMW 7 Series.
The car boasts of being powered by a twin-turbocharged V12 engine that produces 563 horsepower and 605 pound-feet of torque and is available at Ksh45 million in the Kenyan market.
A Mercedes Maybach, which costs upwards of Ksh20 million in the current market, was also seen in the procession.
The video also captured a Cadillac Escalade worth Ksh11 million. The Cadillac is renowned for having a spacious and opulent interior, massive cargo area, balanced ride and handling and intuitive, cutting-edge tech features.
It also offers additional driver-assistance aids, including adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, reverse automatic emergency braking, a rear-camera mirror, lane-change assist, park assist and a head-up display.
“I had to watch the video severally to confirm that this was indeed happening in Kenya,” one social media user posted.
“I have now believed that this country has ultra-wealthy people,” another tweep quipped.
