The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) on Wednesday, May 17 clarified that the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates would use the 2021 cut-off points to apply for university placement.
KUCCPS made the clarification after applicants lamented over the unavailability of the 2022 cut-off points on the site.
The placement agency reiterated that the students would use the old cut-off points to guide their application as they prepare to release the new cut-off points.
"The 2022 cut-off will be availed after placement, meanwhile 2021 cut-off will be used as a guide for application," the agency clarified.
A search by Kenyans.co.ke established that KUCCPS published the 2021 cut-off points for each university in all the courses offered.
For instance, the cut-off point for a law degree at the University of Nairobi was placed at 42.348 while that for Kenyatta University was 42.036.
The 2021 cut-off point for the medicine and surgery degree at Maseno University was placed at 44.143 while Egerton University offered the course at a cut-off of 43.749 points.
All the degree programmes are grouped into 20 clusters for public and private universities.
To access the 2021 cutoff points for the courses, visit students.kuccps.net/programmes/ or access the students portal and select the programmes option.
On the other hand, it was indicated that the students would access the calculated cluster points and course expected subject grades when choosing various courses.
"Kindly login to your student portal, your weighted cluster points have already been calculated for you," read the statement in part.
However, KUCCPS indicated that only those with a minimum grade of C +(plus) would be allowed to apply for degree programmes in the universities.
According to 2022 KCSE results, only 173,345 students managed to score grade C+ and above.
The KUCCPS application portal was officially launched by Education Cabinet Secreatry Ezekiel Machogu.
Unlike previous applications, the placement agency also added new features to the platform including the cost of courses in various universities.
In his speech, the CS also called on those candidates who score below the C+ grade to also apply for opportunities available in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
"We have over 500,000 opportunities in our TVET institutions and we are linking the institutions with other countries including Germany and Hungary.
"I have directed KUCCPS to partner with Huduma Centre to ensure students apply from all parts of the country," Machogu stated.
