The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday received a major boost in its war against drug trafficking after receiving four vehicles from the United States government, customized for such operations.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the agency revealed that the four vehicles were handed over by Joseph Kellams, a top official from the US embassy who was representing the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Country Attaché.

During the handover ceremony attended by the Director of Criminal Investigations Deputy Director Ireri Kamwende, the US official exuded confidence that the vehicles will complement DCI’s mobility efforts in fighting the crime that has previously been cited as a threat to national security.

Kamwende was representing DCI boss Amin Mohamed who was out on official duty.

Senior officials from Homeland Security were also in attendance at the Wednesday event, underscoring the significance the US government had placed on the meeting and collaboration between the two nations.

The representative from the US Embassy further emphasised that the contributions mirrored the United States' dedication to strengthening its security partnership with Kenya.

He also acknowledged that Kenya had taken drastic steps in addressing emerging security threats in the country.

On his part, the DCI Deputy Director expressed optimism on how the law enforcement will be assisted in intensifying the crackdown on drug traffickers in Nairobi.

Notably, the donations by the US came days after the DCI launched a crackdown on suspected drug peddlers in the capital.

The recent crackdown has seen over three people including Nancy Indoveria Kigunzu, alias 'Mathe wa Ngara' arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking.
