A man who went missing on August 24, was found dead near a road in the Mulinduko area of Thiba, Kirinyaga County after local police found the body and booked it to Kerugoya Mortuary.
The man was identified by family members who were alerted by the police after the body was discovered. Authorities have not revealed the circumstances that led to his death.
“We were looking for our brother, who was missing as from last week,” one family member stated.
The family had been trying to locate the man since he went missing, searching for him on social media platforms and through friends.
Police have launched investigations into the death of the 45-year-old mason who plied his trade in the Mwea area.
Some members of the man's family who got to the scene late did not get a chance to view the body which had been transferred to the mortuary.
They have urged for speedy investigations into the matter, suspecting that the deceased was murdered.
According to his brother who spoke at the mortuary, the deceased had neck injuries consistent with torture. It was not immediately clear whether the family got reports after an autopsy.
The man's brother claimed that his motorcycle was found nearby, where his body was found, about 30 kilometers from their home in Thiba.
His phone was still on by the time of the reporting, and a woman who found it ringing along a road at Red Soil Village took it to the nearest police station according to the family.
The deceased was living at a rented house in Red Soil village, Mathangauta sub-county.
His motorcycle and phones have been booked to help police unravel the circumstances that led to his death.
