The Communications Authority has launched a crackdown on fraudsters threatening Kenyans over the phone.
In a notice, the authority revealed that fraudsters target unsuspecting Kenyans and tell them that their sim cards are unregistered.
Others call posing as CA officials and propose to assist their victims with the intention of conning them.
"We remind the general public that the Authority is available and accessible to anyone who wishes to engage with us. At the same time, our website ca.go.ke contains information on the various regulated services and associated fees," read part of the notice.
The Authority urged members of the public to report all suspicious activities and individuals masquerading as employees from the CA.
CA further called upon the public and stakeholders to only use official channels provided by the authority to allow them access services.
"All official communication to the Authority should be channeled through info@ca.go.ke or our regional offices in Mombasa, Eldoret, Nyeri, and Kisumu," the authority reiterated.
Cases of scammers targeting Kenyans via the phone have become rampant in the country with most culprits being convicts in several prisons.
Kenyans who fall for such scams end up losing their hard-earned money to the con artists.
The inmates use several tricks including posing as high school students requesting money for school activities.
Others pose as bank officials and charm their victims.
Earlier in September, the authority cracked down on all illegal internet providers in the country.
The authority issued a warning to all Kenyans using illegally connected internet to stop as the authority intended to crack down on the vice.
