Just like any sector, the media industry also saw prominent journalists well recognised for their TV jobs realign with different outlets, the most notable being Waihiga Mwaura, Dennis Okari, and Mark Masai
Some moved to BBC from local stations, while a majority ditched well-established media outlets for a relatively new entrant into the market, TV47.
Here are nine journalists who switched TV stations this year.
Waihiga Mwaura
Award-winning TV anchor Waihiga Mwaura departed Citizen TV in May this year, where he hosted the popular prime-time bulletin on Tuesday.
Soon after, Citizen TV introduced two new shows: a Tuesday night program titled Explainer With Yvonne Okwara and Thursday Tonight with Sam Gituku.
During his departure, Mwaura was unveiled as the new host of BBC's Focus on Africa.
George Maringa
TV personality George Maringa quit his anchoring role at KTN News in June this year, effectively ending his five years and 11 months of service at the Mombasa Road-based TV station.
"I just resigned today. I am looking forward to starting new things that will be shared soon," he stated at the time.
Maringa joined the station as an intern in 2017 and worked his way up to become an anchor.
Before being placed at the station's headquarters, Maringa worked as the first-ever reporter in Meru County for three years. He reported stories from Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Meru, Isiolo, Lamu, and Marsabit counties.
A month later, Maringa was unveiled as part of a new face to elevate TV47.
Willis Raburu
Longtime 10 Over 10 host Willis Raburu announced his exit from Citizen TV in June this year, bringing an end to his 13 years of service at Royal Media.
The celebrated anchor announced in a four-minute self-recorded video where he expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve at the station.
"Over the past few weeks, since June, I have had the opportunity to reflect on a lot of things concerning my life. What has become a general theme for me is gratitude. I am grateful to you who has walked with me in those 13 years. I have been in the media doing several different things. I am grateful for the opportunity to come out and do what it is I love," he stated.
He was later unveiled as the host of the Tujibebe entertainment show on TV47 in August, and in December, he was appointed Cape Media's Director of Digital Services and Innovations. Cape Media manages TV47 and Radio47.
Mark Masai
Celebrated News anchor Mark Masai's departure from NTV caught the station's viewers by surprise since, at the time, he was considered among the top journalists countrywide.
Prior to his departure, rumours had swirled that a change of leadership necessitated mass exits at Nation Media Group.
In a statement soon after, Masai confirmed that his time at NTV had ended but played cagey with details over his controversial exit.
"NTV is a great team! These are different times. It was a great show. Time for a short commercial break.
"This is the reality of the media landscape around the world and unfortunately, I was at the losing end of this one," he stated.
Masai now co-hosts a podcast titled The Social Newsroom alongside Dennis Okari.
Dennis Okari
A few days after Mark Masai departed NTV, his colleague Dennis Okari called it quits with reports claiming that he differed with the management.
"My assignment at NTV has come to an end. I am grateful to God for the opportunity to serve. I gave it my all, but I couldn't have done it without the help of an incredible team and an amazing audience.
"It is time to move on to something bigger and greater than myself," he announced.
His firing was believed to have stemmed from the media house's attempt to trim its payroll in the face of dwindling profits.
Okari now hosts a podcast titled The Social Newsroom with Mark Masai.
Fred Indimuli
In June this year, Fred Indimuli bid his colleagues goodbye at KTN News, where he served as a news anchor, hosting Inside Politics and reading prime-time news.
He joined the media house in September 2021 to replace Ben Kitili a few months after quitting Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).
At KBC, Indimuli was part of the new team recruited to boost the fortunes of the state-owned media house after a revamp.
He was later recruited as a news anchor at TV47.
Grace Kuria
In 2021, news anchor Grace Kuria ditched KTN after receiving an offer from BBC Africa based in Nairobi.
Earlier this year, however, the star also walked away from that job when she received an offer from TV47 to join its new star-studded team of news anchors.
Kuria has previously worked at CGTN, KTN News, BBC and K24 TV.
"Felt very good to be back. Kesho same time, same place on TV 47, your home of untold stories,” she stated.
Ahmed Bahajj
Ahmed Bahajj joined TV47 around the same time as his colleague Fred Indimuli after leaving KTN News.
Bahajj quit KTN News after four years and six months, where he was a show host, news anchor, and reporter.
Bahajj announced his exit from KTN News on June 8 and thanked the station for shaping him into a better journalist.
At KTN News, he hosted Swahili shows, including Zilizala Viwanjani and Kipi Sijasikia.
