Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched a manhunt for a police corporal who allegedly shot an inspector while on duty.

According to the DCI, the Sunday, December 17 incident unfolded at a rural electrification and renewable energy corporation facility in Kieni, Nyeri.

The inspector was said to have been irked by the behaviour of his junior while in the field. Reports alleged that the wanted officer was intoxicated, forcing his boss to relieve him of his duties.

“The corporal was drunk hence, the inspector relieved him of his duty and ordered him to get back to the vehicle as arrangements were made to replace him,” the police report stated.

Unfortunately, the directives did not sit well with the corporal, who drew his weapon and shot at the inspector.

“The officer boarded the vehicle and shot three bullets from his CZ rifle while aiming at the inspector.

“Unfortunately, two bullets hit him at the right hand and the other at the waist, which lodged in the body," the report added.

Officers on-site managed to successfully disarm the suspect, who unfortunately flagged a private vehicle which he used to run away to a known destination.

The injured police officer, now in a stable condition, was rushed to Mary Immaculate Hospital, where he received treatment.

Police warned the public against hosting the officer who was set to be charged with unlawful use of a firearm and appearing at work while reportedly drunk.
