Kenya Railways has flagged four mobile applications which are reportedly used to scam Kenyans making Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) bookings.
In a notice dated Saturday, the corporation highlighted that fraudsters had created the apps to impersonate the transport provider and dupe Kenyans with fake SGR services.
Among the apps that were listed included SGR Madaraka Express, SGR Madaraka Express Mobile, Madaraka Express-Online Book and Madaraka Express.
Kenyans were, therefore, cautioned against making transactions on the platforms.
Kenya Railways maintained that SGR ticketing is done through its official website.
Further, the corporation also revealed that fraudsters had adopted other tricks to mislead Kenyans with unverified communication.
Some had created pseudo-social media pages and were relaying misleading information on the platforms.
On Facebook, the listed pseudo accounts were; SGR-Madaraka Express Customer Service call, SGR Forum-Madaraka Express, and Madaraka Express Customer Service.
Likewise, on Twitter, Kenyans were advised to watch out for the following accounts; @KenyaRailway, @_KenyaRailways_, @kenyarailwaykrc, @KenyaRailw39401, @KenyaRailwayske, @Kenyarailway_ke, @KenyaRailway and @KanyoRailways.
"We wish to inform the public that the above list of fake accounts and phone numbers have no association with Kenya Railways and are not authorized to disburse any information on behalf of the Corporation and carry out any transaction involving the selling/purchasing of tickets," read the notice part.
"Please note that Kenya Railways' official pages and contacts are Kenya Railways on Facebook and @Kenya Railways on Twitter."
On the other hand, the Corporation also highlighted that some Kenyans were offering KR services through their personal numbers. KR maintained that it communicates through 070990700, 0709907555, and 0709388887.
