Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda was on Thursday, February 29, impeached from office.
Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) made good their threat to hound him out of office with 53 members voting in favour of his ouster.
Monda had been accused of bribery, and abuse of power, among other accusations, which formed the basis of the impeachment motion.
The 15 who voted against the motion, cited lack of democracy in how the impeachment plot was hatched and executed, arguing that it was unfair.
Ichuni MCA Wycliffe Siocha filed an impeachment motion against him, accusing him of graft, charges which he denied while appearing before the Assembly on Thursday morning.
At the centre of his ouster, was a claim that the DG had received a bribe to influence the employment of a youth in the county office.
Despite there being mobile money transactions and bank statement evidence, Monda stated that the money received from the youth's father was repayment for a loan he had granted him.
In his defence, the Deputy Governor stated that the Ksh500,000, forwarded to his contact, was for a deal they had conducted with the youth's father, who is a family friend.
"They had visited me in my house and later, I and the father withdrew to talk issues as friends when I asked if he could refund the money, I had extended to him, he obliged," Monda explained.
Mondi further denied having influenced hiring at the Gusii Water and Sanitation Company, after part of the money was allegedly sent to the company's Managing Director.
City lawyer Katwa Kigen, who represents the Deputy Governor, was on Tuesday disappointed after a court declined to halt the impeachment he had sought to stop.
"I, Katwa Kigen, do certify that the application is of utmost urgency as the petitioner is at the peril of irreparable injury of being subjected to a process of impeachment," read the court documents.
