Additionally, some of the students were seen jumping outside the bus through the windows as residents attempted to lift the bus to save those who may have been trapped underneath.

No casualties have been reported yet as police and the school management were yet to issue a statement on the accident.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident as injured students receive treatment at nearby hospitals.

This accident occurred barely two weeks after another bus belonging to Kenyatta University crashed in Voi, Taita Taveta County while also heading to Mombasa.

The accident occurred on Monday, March 18 after the university bus collided with a trailer resulting in the death of 11 students. Several others were injured in the grisly accident.

Following several accidents which have occurred within the month resulting in the death of about 30 Kenyans, the Ministry of Transport announced new measures to curb more accidents.

One of the measures announced by Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen was the reintroduction of National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) officials back on the road.

Additionally, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki proposed the introduction of an age limit for driving licenses after a surge in road accidents across the country.

"There are people who should not drive because of age or health reasons. Right now, as long as you can hold the steering wheel, you are good to go. There are some countries where the licences cannot be renewed for those past the age of 70 years," he stated.
