Police in Kitui are investigating an incident after the body of a middle-aged man was found inside a store on Friday, March 29, after falling from a ceiling in an attempted robbery.

According to Mulinge Kituo, the store’s owner, he stumbled on the man’s lifeless body after opening his shop.

“When I opened the shop, I saw that a part of the gypsum plaster on the ceiling had a huge hole, and just below it on the floor of the shop was the body of a man who looked lifeless,” he told local reporters.

In a CCTV footage shared online, the man can be seen cutting through the ceiling cardboard. He later entered through the hole. His legs could be seen dangling in the air.

The deceased, clinging to the roof, moments later lost his grip and fell to the ground head first.

The footage further showed that the man did not die instantly. He can be seen writhing in pain on the store’s floor for several minutes before going still at around 11:40 pm.

The man is yet to be identified. The body was later transferred to the Mwingi Level 4 Hospital mortuary for an autopsy report.

Police have launched investigations to further ascertain the events leading to the incident.

In a similar incident at the beginning of March, CCTV footage exposed thieves jumping over a fence and drilling a hole through a cyber cafe shop in the Utawala area in Nairobi.

According to the store owner, the suspects were frequent customers of the cafe, who from time to time went in to access various services.

The owner further pleaded with the authorities to act and bring the perpetrators to justice, as the case was still pending three months after the act.

The thieves made away with goods worth ksh400,000.
