On Saturday evening, a driver reported to have been driving a white SUV fled after hitting a pedestrian at Thika Road along Lumumba Drive, Nairobi County.

The victim was later identified as a daughter to a Kirinyaga Member of the County Assembly (MCA) who is now pleading with the police and the general public to help locate the driver.

In a statement to the public, MCA Njeri Mwaniki remarked that her daughter almost lost her life during the hit-and-run incident.

She lamented that while the driver of the SUV might go into hiding for the moment, the law would finally catch up with him.

“You knocked down my daughter almost killing her, you will know that there is law in this country,” she stated.

“If you are wise just reveal yourself before the law catches up with you.”

While seeking prayers from the public, she expressed her gratitude that her daughter was recuperating well.

According to the politician, a good samaritan identified as Dennis was on the scene of the accident and helped save the victim.

He was able to identify the vehicle as well as rush the young lady to the hospital where she is currently receiving treatment.

The accident happened at a time when there have been rising cases of careless driving in the country resulting in avoidable fatalities.

According to the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA), accidents significantly rose between January 1, 2024, and April 1, 2024, compared to similar a period in 2023.

In that period, 7,198 Kenyans were involved in road accidents which was a 1,908 increase over a similar period last year.
