This is the Amount Government Plans to Spend on Bar Soaps

The Government intends to use Sh37.5 Million to buy 1000 bars of soap to be distributed to victims of the El Nino rains.

A document seen by Nation has revealed the plan which translates to Sh 37,500 per bar soap, triggering public concern considering reports that the country is going through difficult economic times.

The price of a bar soap at supermarkets and shops ranges between Sh150 and Sh250 depending on the type.

This comes even as other cases of graft such as the NYS scam where about Sh791 Million is reported to be lost, coupled with inappropriate use of public funds in County Governments have raised concerns over how the taxpayers' money is spent by the two levels of Government.

Recent reports indicate that the country is going through a cash crunch owing to the delay of civil servants' salaries, parliamentarians allowances and even teachers' September salaries.

However, Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury , Henry Rotich refuted claims that the government is broke telling a parliamentary committee last week that money had already been disbursed to the counties.

Chairman of the Council of Governors, Peter Munya responded almost immediately to the statement by the CS, saying counties had only received funds to pay salaries and that development projects had stalled.
