Boni Khalwale, Babu Owino Warn of Violence After Gunshots at Raila's Meeting

Two politicians affiliated to the CORD Coalition on Saturday issued strong warnings after gunshots were fired at former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's meeting in Turkana East.

Reacting to the news, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale stated that it was 'foolish' for anyone to hire goons and attack Odinga.

Mr Khalwale noted that such action would only result into war in the country.

"Some fools think that opening fire on Raila is a good joke! Ask Rwanda about the assassination of Juvenile Habiryamana!" the Senator said.

Embakasi East parliamentary aspirant and student leader Babu Owino also commented on the happenings which caused panic in Turkana highlighting that it could have detrimental consequences.

"The attempt on Raila Odinga's life in Turkana must not be taken lightly cause the consequences may cost us peace for a very long time," Owino stated.

At the same time, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula and Kiminini legislator Chris Wamalwa have called on the Government to provide the Opposition leaders with security during rallies.

"Nkaiserry should use the same force he used on us and innocent protestors during the anti-IEBC demonstrations in dealing with bandits and youth who are keen on perpetrating violence during this electioneering period

"We want to see Kenyans going to every part of Kenya and selling their policies freely. People have the right to resist ideas sold to them but do not have the right to interfere with whoever is delivering the message," Wetangula said.

On Friday, armed youth stormed Mr Odinga's meeting and fired shots in the air throwing the forum into limbo.

According to Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok, the suspected goons had been hired by a local MP.

"We have been told that one MP incited youths to come to our meeting and disrupt it. We did not even have a chance to address the rally as stones were thrown at us. We also heard gunshots and we left to our next point which was Lokichar," Nanok said.
