Dennis Itumbi Links IEBC Hacking Gang to Governor Joho

A State House official has now linked Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho to a dangerous international cybercrime syndicate that was arrested while trying to hack the IEBC servers.

Itumbi posted a photo that appeared to show one of the suspects posing with Joho, both clad in ODM colours.

The State House official captioned the post on his Instagram page, “the link”.

Kenyans.co.ke could not independently verify the authenticity of the photo posted by Itumbi.

The Daily Nation had reported that the gang had been working with insiders and relatives of “prominent politicians”, to install malware into the systems that allowed them to take control of the institutions’ computers and steal hundreds of millions.

Apart from the IEBC, the criminals are reported to have successfully hacked systems of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), several blue-chip banks, a parastatal and a supermarket chain.

The gang which had been operating in Muthaiga, Nairobi CBD, Thika, and Roysambu, was also reported to have been involved in drug smuggling.
