DP Ruto Directs Kerio Valley Belt to Be Gazetted as Dangerous Area, Presides Over Handing Over of Modern Weapons

Deputy President William Ruto has made a rather surprise move, just days after his shoot-to-kill order was criticised by human rights activists.

On Monday, Ruto presided over the handing over of sophisticated weapons that will be used in enhancement of peace.

The DP further announced that Kerio Valley belt would be gazetted as a dangerous area for security operation to flush out cattle rustlers.

To ensure that the operation is successful, Ruto directed more resources including police reservists, aerial support technology, and the establishment of emergency police posts in the Kerio Valley area.

Kerio Valley has in recent weeks witnessed violent clashes between the communities living in the area.

More than ten people have been killed while more than 10,000 others have been displaced.

On Friday last week, armed Pokot bandits shot in the air a few kilometres from where Ruto was holding a security meeting in Bartabwa Ward.

The incident left Ngorora chief Thomas Ruttok Chebor dead.

An angry DP gave the police a shoot to kill order as a response to the deadly bandits.
