DP Ruto's Allies Oppose Moi's Uhuru Endorsement, Claim KANU's Move Has Zero Impact

Key allies of Deputy President William Ruto have revealed that the decision by the KANU party to support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election will have no consequences on the ground.

West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin, who is a close ally of the DP, stated that the endorsement was hypocritical because KANU purported to support Kenyatta while at the same time opposing Ruto’s bid to become President in 2022.

"They are confused because you cannot say you support Uhuru and not his Deputy. This is immature politics, which has been overtaken by time," the Governor affirmed.

He added that Jubilee had won the 2013 election without KANU’s support, claiming that they would reciprocate the same win with or without the independent party.

"We don’t want the support of Kanu. In 2013, we made it without their support. Right now the President and his Deputy are just keeping quite but the truth will come out in May," Kachapin stated.

There have been reports that Ruto was kept out of the endorsement deal that was agreed after talks between KANU Chairman Gideon Moi and President Kenyatta.

Part of the deal reportedly requires Jubilee not to field a candidate against Gideon as he seeks re-election for the Baringo Senate seat.

Kachapin, however, alleges that Gideon opted to support Kenyatta after he realised that he was facing stiff competition from the Jubilee candidate.

Kachapin added that Jubilee members in West Pokot want KANU to dissolve and join the ruling coalition if they are serious about supporting Kenyatta.
