Garrisa University College Staff Refuse To Return

Non-teaching staff at the Garissa University College currently at Moi University Campus in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County have defied and administrative order to return to Garissa.

According to NTV, the staff said they will not be going back due to insecurity in the region.

Through a memo by Garissa University College Principal Professor Ahmed Warfa on June 25th, the staff were told to report to Garissa as their services were no longer required at the Eldoret campus.

Warfa said that only those helping out with exam preparations at the University could stay while the rest were ordered to resume their duties by July 1st.

The staff along with the students who survived the terror attack in April have been at the campus for weeks now.

The staff however maintain that they will remain put because they fear for their lives.

They called on leaders to intervene and ensure that they do not return to the university.

According to Citizen Digital, Education CS Prof Jacob Kaimenyi has however said the university will not be opened any time soon.

Kaimenyi said that stakeholders from the college are yet to consult on whether to reopen it or not.

He told the parliamentary committee on education it will not be wise to reopen the school right now as those affected are still traumatized after the attack.
