Machakos Land Row Leaves Three Dead, 20 Injured as 92 are Arrested

Three people were on Friday killed and 20 others injured following clashes over a piece of land in Athi River.

Witnesses stated that the attack occurred after unknown people ferried over 200 youth in four buses.

The group of youth, which was armed with machetes and firearms, started ordering residents at Green Park Estate to vacate the land.

The residents, in turn, mobilised their own group of youth and the factions clashed in a violent encounter.

"The men were armed with machetes and started forcing people out and then demolishing houses.

"Meanwhile, the people who were already residing in the area mobilised their youth and a fight ensued," a police officer explained the situation.

Police on Friday said they had arrested 92 people over the morning chaos and the suspects were set to appear before the Mavoko Law Courts later in the day.
