Police Officers Linked To Railway Theft

Former and serving police officers have been connected to the theft of metal from the railway lines in Nakuru County.

Nakuru Railways OCPD Justina Nzivo said that the police were directly or indirectly colluding with criminals to vandalise and steal metals.

Nzivo added that a lorry transporting rail metal valued at  Sh1.7 Million was seized at Solai last week. The officers linked to the lorry were armed and in full uniform and are said to have escaped when they noticed they were being followed.

"It is surprising that people who are supposed to protect property are behind the crime of vandalizing railways. Three police officers were escorting the vehicles and we found the areas where they are based," said Ms Nzivo.

The OCPD has asked residents to report any information concerning the matter, she also warned any officer participating in the crime saying they would be disciplined according to the National Police Service procedures even as further investigations were being conducted.

"Ex-police officers working with railways are being investigated to see if they are connected to the vice, more so along Londiani-Molo line that heads to Kisumu," she said.
