Tuju Warns Uhuru-Friendly Aspirants who Have Defected from Jubilee to Small Parties

The Jubilee Party officials on Wednesday sent out a warning to politicians who are supportive of President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid, but who have declined to run on the party's ticket.

Head of Secretariat, Raphael Tuju, stated that the politicians who are running to small parties that claim to be supportive of the President will not find it easy as Jubilee will invest its mighty resources in all areas.

“Those running away from Jubilee to other parties are doing so at their own peril. We will field Jubilee candidates in all the areas. We have not signed any pact with any political party or coalition,” Tuju stated.

He added that Jubilee would not sign any form of cooperation agreement with the parties that are fielding their own candidates while supporting Kenyatta in the presidential race.

The Jubilee officials were, however, categorical that they would hold free and fair nominations that would be presided over by the IEBC.

Among the parties that have benefited from the defections in the Jubilee strongholds include Meru Governor Peter Munya's Party of National Unity (PNU) and Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) headed by Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.

Jubilee Party’s Secretary-General Veronica Maina warned those wishing to contest in their nominations not to use the names of the president and his deputy.

“Let it be clear that we don’t have preferred candidates and any aspirant using the names of party leader and his deputy will be in for a rude shock,” Ms Maina affirmed.
