VIDEO: Nyeri County Govt To Sack Striking Health Workers

Nurses in Nyeri County who have been on strike may be sacked, should the county government make good on its threat to fire them.

The county government ordered the nurses to obey a court order stopping the strike, or risk loosing their jobs.

The county health executive on Friday asked retired nurses and qualified individuals to hand in their applications to relevant human resource offices in order to be considered for the jobs.

The striking nurses, however, maintain they will not return to work until their demands are met.

The nurses are asking for salary increments and promotions.

Operations remained paralyzed in hospitals at the Counyt for the better part of the week as the nurses downed their tools.

The situation is similar in many other counties with health workers all threatening not to return to work unitl their terms are met.

Some governors have blamed the national governmnet on the issue of delayed salaries.

Speaking to Citizen Tv however, DP William Ruto said the county governmnets were partly to blame.

Ruto said that part of the problem was that the governors were not prioritising their spending correctly.

He urged the governors to prioritise recurring expenditures such as salaries when assigning funds once they are released from the National governmnet.
