VIDEO: Waiguru Finally Responds to Corruption Claims

Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru has finally spoken out on the outrageous corruption deals in her Ministry and the National Youth Service (NYS).

Waiguru said that in the last three months, she had been viciously attacked by the media and the ill intended move was a mere distraction from the work the Ministry had been doing in the last two years.

In her Facebook post, the CS stated that the attacks were personal as there were graft cases in other government departments but were not handled in the same way.

Waiguru defended herself from the dubious allegations saying, “I do not procure. I do not purchase anything for the ministry. I don't sign or negotiate contracts.”

She added that she was only a whistle blower in the malpractices at the Devolution docket, as she informed the relevant authorities when the misconducts were brought to her attention.

The CS further pointed out that the investigative body - Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) - had not linked her to graft therefore she would continue with her duties at the Ministry.

Waiguru responded to a Tuesday report released by the Parliamentary Accounts Committee on extravagant spending at the Devolution Ministry which sparked an uproar in the country.

Among the expenses considered most ridiculous, was the purchase of a Sh1.7 Million touch screen television, carpets worth Sh3.8 Million and 18 condom dispensers at Sh450,000. In the list there was also the purchase of an office piano at Sh235,500 which the CS strongly opposed.

"And for the record I have no such TV screen or piano in my office,” Waiguru stated.
