President Uhuru Invites Murang'a Musicians for Nyama Choma at State House

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday invited musicians from Murang'a County to State House for a friendly chat over nyama choma (barbeque).

The president invited the musicians to his official residence on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, during the funeral of veteran Benga musician Joseph Kamaru.

The invitation was extended after Ben Githae of the Uhuru Tano Tena fame pleaded with the president to grant them an audience.

Githae asked the president to consider their request because the Late Kamaru had been pursuing the matter before his demise.

In response to the ardent request, the president obliged in Kikuyu promising to "slaughter" something for them.

"You have requested a meeting with me and I see no problem with that because you were mentored by the Late Mzee and I would like you to nurture your talents and mentor others.

"Therefore, you are invited to meet with me [at State House] next Tuesday. Come over, let's sit, talk, discuss as you let me know where the problem may be and how I can help.

"I believe such discussions will help us make this music industry beneficial to you as musicians and the country as well. Are we in agreement? And don't worry, I'll slaughter something for you," the President remarked.

The president remembered the departed musical maestro as a generous man who used his talent to teach, rebuke and even worship God.

He assured the Kigumo constituents that they would not be neglected but the friendship he had cultivated with the national leaders would remain intact.

"Today we lay to rest a legend, a friend and a distinguished Kenyan who used his gift of music to teach and to unite people, and to praise God. May he rest in peace," the president tweeted.
