Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri Leads Demo Against President Uhuru

Hours after President Uhuru Kenyatta reprimanded Mt Kenya leaders over criticising his government, Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri led demos in the streets of Nakuru town protesting the remarks.

The MP who had in the past asked the President to table his resignation expressed his disappointment with the "washenzi" remarks, a salvo by Uhuru towards him and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria.

Wearing a white t-shirt branded "Mimi ni mshenzi. Je, wewe mwana Kenya? (I am a fool. What about you Kenyan), Ngunjiri engaged supporters in the streets.

He voiced his support for Jubilee lawmakers agitating for more development projects in Mt Kenya region.

Chanting one of Jubilee's rallying call during the 2017 election, Kumira kumira (massive turnout), the MPs supporters added a twist by adding "washenzi (idiots)" as the response.

The rioters equally identified themselves as #TeamWashenzi, in a bid to express their displeasure with Uhuru's remarks.

The apparent tussle within Jubilee ranks was triggered on New Year eve when Kuria told revellers at Thika Stadium that the region would no longer be used as voting machines but should benefit from the President's agenda given that he hails from there.

Shortly after, the Party's Vice-Chairman David Murathe fueled the controversy by indicating that Deputy President William Ruto should retire alongside Uhuru given that they served their term concurrently.

It is against this background that Uhuru sought to silence the naysers with the controversial off the cuff remark, "Kwa hivyo hao washenzi waachane na mimi. Na hivyo ndivyo itakua (Those idiots should leave me alone. That is how it will be)".
