Kenya's Covid-19 cases rose to 8,528 on Wednesday, July 8, after 278 individuals tested positive in the preceding 24 hours.
In a press briefing in Makueni County, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe stated that the 278 new cases were confirmed after testing 3,053 samples.
An additional 89 patients were discharged, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 2,593. Unfortunately, 2 more patients succumbed to the disease bringing total fatalities from March 13, 2020, to 169.

"Today 89 patients have been discharged from various hospitals, bringing to 2,593 the total number of recoveries. I want to thank our healthcare workers for their dedication and commitment to duty," stated the CS.
During his address in the county, the CS disclosed that the state was impressed by the level of preparedness in most areas he visited.
"Makueni County, in particular, has been extremely organised and has demonstrated a high standard of readiness.
"We are now dealing with a virus that is well established at the community level. All counties, except 5, have reported cases of Covid-19," he stated.
He further noted that 252 healthcare personnel of all cadres had been hired for Makueni County to boost its human resource capacity.
He also disclosed that the process of hiring another 110 was still on-going.
Kagwe commended Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana for achieving the requisite 300-bed capacity after aiming to have 800 beds installed as the county recorded 44 of the positive cases.
“For those who have been exposed, I want to assure them that the government is committed to ensuring that all our frontline soldiers are protected at all times by making available the necessary PPEs and other commodities as they manage our patients.
“There can never be a higher calling by an individual than what you are currently doing. As a nation we are indebted to you," he added.
