Hussein Mohamed

Hussein Mohammed, the State House Spokesperson, became a household name during a stellar career as a Senior News Anchor at Citizen TV Kenya.

Heading to the 2022 general election, Hussein Mohammed was appointed as the head of communications for then-Deputy President William Ruto's presidential campaign.

As the State House Spokesperson, Mohamed has been involved in representing President William Ruto and the government on various matters. For example, he recently spoke about Kenya's big win at COP28, highlighting the country's achievements at the conference.

Hudson Alakonya

Hudson is an oncologist and an accomplished medical practitioner with a  PhD in oncology research from the University of Oxford.

Dr. Alakonya is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in New York.

His research mainly focuses on developing Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET) molecular imaging agents for early detection and prognosis evaluation of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

Kelvin Kiptum

2023 was quite the year for Kelvin Kiptum.

The 23-year-old marathoner became the first man to break the 2:01:09 record held by Eliud Kipchoge after winning the Chicago Marathon in October after setting a time of 2:00:35.

Kiptum’s achievement meant that he eclipsed Kipchoge as the world’s best marathoner.

However, Kiptum is not done and has trained his efforts to hoist Kenya’s flag even higher in future competitions.

Khaligraph Jones

Brian Ouko Omollo alias Khaligraph Jones is an award-winning Kenyan rapper and songwriter. 

He is best known for his hit songs “Mazishi” and “Yego” and has two albums to his name; Testimony 1990 and Invisible Currency.

In 2024, Khaligraph Jones continued to make waves in the rap music industry in Kenya as well as set social media agendas online.

John Allan Namu

If you ask any Kenyan to name the top 5 investigative journalists of all time, chances are John Allan Namu will likely feature in the list.

Namu, the co-founder of Africa Uncensored - a media house that specialises in investigative journalism and impactful stories, recently celebrated the 8th anniversary of the stable he co-founded alongside his close friends.

Namu built his name at Standard Group where he, alongside Mohammed Ali, now Nyali MP, and Dennis Onsarigo did some impactful investigative stories.

Professor Kithure Kindiki

The Interior Ministry was previously associated with tough-talking ministers with authoritative voices such as Fred Matiang’i, Joseph Nkaissery, John Michuki and George Saitoti.

However, the current occupant of the lofty office is soft-spoken and more diplomatic than his predecessors. That said, since ascending to the office, he has performed.

Over the course of the year, Kindiki was ranked as the best-performing cabinet secretary by various research firms including Infotrak and TIFA.

Caleb Karuga

Caleb Karuga is the textbook definition of resilience, epitomising the saying that whatever happens, life has to move on.

The journalist-turned-entrepreneur ventured into agribusiness in 2013 after he unexpectedly lost his TV job. 

As a journalist, Karuga was earning less than Ksh100,000 per month but two years after venturing into poultry farming, he was making close to Ksh1 million. 

Okiya Omtatah

His detractors have described him as a serial litigant and someone determined to derail the government’s agenda.

But in the eyes of Kenyans, Omtatah, the current Busia Senator, is a hero who has proven more than capable of checking the government’s excesses.

In 2023, he made headlines for opposing and filing a case against the Finance Act, 2023 which culminated in the High Court declaring the Housing Levy unconstitutional.

Eric Omondi

Eric Omondi, is a comedian event emcee and activist. He has leveraged his platform to advocate for policies aimed at improving the lives of Kenyans.

On 30th November 2024, the comedian-turned-activist and philanthropist won the Celebrity Champion of the Year award at the NGO Awards. He also received the National Council of Community-Based Organisations’ Humanitarian of the Year award.

Kimani Ichung’wah

National Assembly Majority Leader and Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wah is currently one of the most prominent politicians in the country, enjoying the privileged status of having a direct line to President William Ruto. 

Ichung’wah joined politics in 2013 after he was elected as MP via a The National Alliance (TNA) ticket.

In the 2017 general elections, he made history as the first Member of Parliament to be elected unopposed under the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
