Githunguri Member of Parliament (MP) Gathoni Wamuchomba has hit out at those she deemed “political chauvinists,” specifically accusing her predecessor of publicly fighting her and derailing her development projects in the constituency.
In a statement on Tuesday, April 8, Wamuchomba stated that the former MP, who currently serves as a board member of the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), had vowed to use his position to stop development projects in the constituency.
“He’s now threatening that no CDF work will be done in Githunguri under his watch,” Wamuchomba stated.
“Last year, he held a public meeting to incite the public against me in Nyaga and even promised to build a laboratory using NGCDF money, yet I’m the elected Member of Parliament. I protested to the NGCDF Board, and this didn’t stop.”
Apart from abusing his capacity to delay projects in the constituency, Wamuchomba alleged that the former MP had stormed her CDF offices on Saturday and threatened to harm them, a matter that she said has been reported to the Githunguri OCPD.
According to Wamuchomba, her predecessor has repeatedly bragged about being untouchable and protected by the state, an assertion she alleged was demonstrated during President William Ruto’s recent trip to Mount Kenya.
During the trip, the president tasked him with tarmacking the 3.1-kilometre Kaaria Lioki road and was publicly awarded Ksh50 million to cater for the same.
Wamuchomba described this move as unconstitutional, as he had already served his term in the constituency before her.
This move was not without precedence, however, as he had been tasked with delivering 30 coolers for daily farmers during the President’s 2023 tour of the region, a task Wamuchomba revealed had not been fulfilled.
She also highlighted another project he had been tasked with that he did not complete, which was completing the stalled Githunguri uplands road.
Wamuchomba ended her statement by declaring that she would not be intimidated by any of this and would keep serving the residents of the Githunguri constituency.
“As you attack and intimidate me, we are happy Lioki people will have a tarmack in two weeks, as the duo promised. Nothing will stop me from defending the truth and pressing for my constituents. I am the woman for the Job," she declared.
This comes just a day after the fierce supporter of former Deputy Rigathi Gachagua claimed that her life was in danger shortly after honouring a summon by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), alleging that mercenaries had been sent to finish her.
"There are mercenaries hired by politicians to intimidate, kill, and abduct. I want to announce here that my life is in danger. Anything happening to me, we know who is behind it," the MP said on Monday.
