Former President Mwai Kibaki Votes Late After Name Misses From Voter Register

Former President Mwai Kibaki was on Tuesday morning surprised after finding that his name was not on the voter register.

Kibaki's security team is said to have arrived at Munaini primary school at around 10 am but was kept at the polling station for hours after missing his name from the official register.

The team had to wait at the station as sources confirmed that his name was in deed not among those pinned on the wall.

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials at the centre were forced to hold a meeting to deliberate on the way forward regarding the matter.

However, Kibaki later arrived at the station at around 5.30 pm where he was allowed to vote.

Days before the election, the IEBC had asked voters to confirm their details including the correct polling centres and stream numbers.

Earlier on, Kisumu West Member of Parliament (MP) Olago Oluoch was turned away when he arrived to cast his vote for lack of an original ID card.

Olago, who is allied to the National Super Alliance (NASA), arrived at his polling station (Mkendwa Muslim Primary School) shortly after 6:00 am but was not allowed to proceed after officials discovered that he lacked an original card.

The MP's efforts to explain to the IEBC officials that he was a duly registered voter were futile as the Presiding officer insisted that Olago would not be allowed to vote without an original ID.
