Homa Bay County Government Offices Burnt Down

The offices of Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti have been burnt down following a suspected arson attack at the County headquarters.

Unknown people set on fire the building situated in Homa Bay town on Thursday night and the inferno was still raging by Friday morning.

Homa Bay County Police Commander Marius Tum confirmed the incident, adding that one person had been arrested in connection with the fire.

The person is not a resident of Homa Bay County.

He was found with petrol suspected to have been used to torch the building.

The procurement and finance departments were the most affected, with a lot of crucial documents burnt to ashes in the fire.

The police were at the scene to begin investigations into the arson attack.

On Tuesday, sleuths from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) were at the offices and left with documents and computers.

The officers were investigating an alleged loss of Sh 5 Billion through impropriety of senior county government officials.
