Kenya's Trending Topics on December 20, 2017

Kenyans were on Wednesday engaged in various heated discussions following the release of the 2017 KCSE exams results.

Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i announced the results shortly after officially presenting them to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Under the topic "President Kenyatta" netizens discussed three tough orders CS Matiang'i received, one of which tied in with the President's Big Four agenda for his second term.

The President ordered Dr Matiang'i to liaise with Health CS Cleopa Mailu to ensure that all three million secondary school students are enrolled in the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) scheme.

Netizens sought to know the relevance of the directive while others took the opportunity to claim that the Education CS was working harder than the President himself.

Dr Matiang'i, along with the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) Chairman George Magoha, were also instructed to now institutionalise education reforms.

President Kenyatta asked the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to reward principals, schools and subject teachers who excelled to promote continued high performance.

CS Matiangi was also directed to work with Attorney General Githu Muigai to make presentations to the DPP so that cases of cheating involving more than 700 teachers countrywide are expedited.
