Court Orders Release of Miguna Miguna

In an interesting twist of events, National Resistance Movement (NRM) self-proclaimed general, Miguna Miguna was rearrested on Friday evening hours after a High Court had ordered his release.

Advocate, Edwin Sifuna through his twitter stated that Miguna had been put back into the cells.

"Miguna has been put back in the cells a few minutes ago here at Githunguri Police Station. It appears orders have come to the local police to defy the High Court release order," Sifuna disclosed.

Judge James Wakiaga had ordered for the release of the lawyer on a Sh50,000 bail pending the hearing of his case.

The controversial legal mind was also directed to appear before the court in person on Monday the following week.

Wakiaga added that the order was to be served personally to the Inspector General Joseph Boinnet for it to be effected.

Following the order, Mr Sifuna disclosed that they were prevented from leaving the police station by a crowd that had blocked the gate to the station.

"A crowd has laid siege to the Githunguri Police station to prevent Miguna and the rest of us from leaving,"

Miguna has been accused of administering an unlawful oath to NASA leader Raila Odinga as the People's President and also attending an illegal ceremony.

The outspoken lawyer was arrested on Friday from his house in Runda estate after the police conducted an early morning raid.

A section of National Super Alliance (NASA) supporters launched protests on Friday mid-morning in Kibera following the arrest of Miguna.

The opposition followers burnt tires at some sections of the slum while others barricaded the Southern bypass to protest the morning incident.
