This is What the Media Does Wrong - Interior CS Matiang'i

Cabinet Secretary (CS), Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government, Fred Matiang'i ,on Friday revealed the kind of assertion that is misinterpreted by the Media.

Speaking at Kebirichi secondary school in Nyamira, he dismissed the assertion that the government is conducting a crackdown on opposition leaders, a language the media uses to explain the recent arrests of National Super Alliance (NASA) politicians associated with the swearing-in of Raila Odinga.

"That is the language being used in the media and I have no problem with it. We have no plan of cracking down on anybody because we are neither a police state nor a military government," he conveyed.

He dismissed the narrative further clarifying that the government was only dealing with individuals who breached the law stipulated in the Constitution.

"We are a democratically elected government and will not compromise the rule of law at the altar of whims.

"Everything we are doing is within the law because we are a democratically elected government which respects the rule of law, if we did not respect the law we would do otherwise,"  the CS stated.

He maintained that the country will apply the rule of law firmly and will not negotiate the stability of the country.

"If we negotiate the security of the people, we will be the most irresponsible government," he asserted.

CS Matiang'i warned that the state would continue arresting and prosecuting such individuals in the best interest of the country.
