Kitui County offices were on Saturday night burnt down destroying records and equipment worth millions of shillings.
The offices which were housed at the Tourist Office Complex in Kitui were razed to the ground in the inferno that lasted till Sunday morning.
Five County departments affected include Tourism and Culture, Human Resources and Payroll, Education and ICT as well as Minerals and Natural resources.
The building went up in flames, as county workers and residents watched helplessly.
Reports from those present indicate that there were no firefighters present to combat the inferno.
Earlier in September 2017, government offices were burnt down in Migori County leading to the destruction of crucial documents.
Confirming the incident, County Police Boss Joseph Nthenge stated that they launched a probe into the incident believing arsonists may have caused it.
The procurement and finance departments were the most affected, with a lot of crucial documents being burnt to ashes in the inferno.
The fire raised a lot of questions since it occurred three days after sleuths from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) visited the offices and left with documents and computers.
The detectives were investigating an alleged loss of Sh5 Billion through impropriety by senior county government officials.
