Kivutha Kibwana's Meeting With DP Ruto Leaves Kalonzo Worried

Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana met Deputy President William Ruto last week in Karen and it is understood that this has left Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka worried.

The meeting came just a day after Kibwana had threatened to ditch Wiper and led to speculation that he was intending to ditch Musyoka.

Initially, the governor had criticised Kalonzo's camp of undermining his leadership and that of Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu.

Ruto is seen as Kenyatta's natural heir following their deal prior to the 2012 General Election and the race for the 2022 election has already began.

Kibwana is considered one of the most influential leaders in Ukambani especially due to his ranking as one of the best performing governors and his meeting with Ruto may lead to new political alliances though he maintained the meeting was not political.

“We discussed the development agenda for Makueni and Ukàmbani at large. My main concerns were the tarmacking of Emàli- Ukia Road, Thwake Dam, Konza Technocity, Wote Stadium and so on,” reads the statement published on Prof Kibwana’s social media accounts.

Kalonzo has his eyes firmly set on the 2022 election and such a setback may hamper his plans of clinching the seat or even getting the backing of his people.

Senators Mutula Kilonzo Junior (Makueni) and Enock Wambua (Kitui) and MPs Daniel Maanzo (Makueni), Patrick Makau (Mavoko) and Thaddeus Nzambia (Kilome), however, stated they were open to political alliances.

“Prof Kibwana and Deputy President William Ruto are both politicians of long-standing. So those who are reading politics in the meeting of the two are not far off the mark,” stated Wambua.

His sentiments were echoed by Kilonzo who noted: “If I was asked, I would tell them (top Wiper leaders) to move with speed to meet the Deputy President and other leaders."
