MP Babu Owino Announces Joint Event With Uhuru, Raila at Jacaranda Grounds

Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino on Tuesday announced that he will be conducting an operation alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Conveying details of the operation, Babu invited his constituents to the Wednesday morning event at the Jacaranda Grounds.

"Invitation to all Embakasi East constituents for the title deeds issuance function at the Jacaranda Grounds from 8 am. tomorrow (Wednesday). The event will be presided over by His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta and His ExcellencyRaila Odinga," the MP posted on his Twitter handle.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is also expected to attend the function where 50,000 title deeds will be issued to residents.

The issuance of title deeds operation falls under the Ksh17 Billion Nairobi Regeneration Project that was commissioned by President Kenyatta in November 2017.

On May 15, Lands Cabinet Secretary Farida Karoney announced to Nairobians that the ministry - in conjunction with the county government - had already prepared title deeds to issue to landowners in Nairobi who did not have the ownership documents.

"We have managed to process 52,000 title deeds and we are able to do more if members of the public can bring in their letters of allotment. We encourage more residents of Nairobi to report to the Lands office with the documents so that we can process them because you can't develop your land if you don't have the title.

"The owners of these 52,000 titles have waited to receive them for over 30 and up to 40 years and it is only because of the cooperation and support Governor Sonko has accorded us that we have been able to do this," CS Karoney explained.

The CS further assured residents that the government had waived the stamp duty fee for the operation and as such the titles would be processed free of charge.

Other initiatives that have budded from the Nairobi Regeneration Project are the introduction of a Bus Rapid Transfer (BRT) lane on Thika Road as well as the car-free days set to be introduced in Westlands and CBD areas.

Transport and Infrastructure CS James Macharia assured residents that the 39 low-cost BRT buses will arrive in Kenya on Madaraka Day.
