Musalia Mudavadi's Message for 2018 Madaraka Day

Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi on Thursday issued a message to Kenyans ahead of the Madaraka Day celebrations set for Friday.

In a post on his official Twitter handle, Mudavadi told his followers that there was no reason to commemorate the 55th edition of the attainment of self-rule due to the corruption menace.

Though he wished Kenyans goodwill on the day, he noted that the celebrations would be marred by the saddening prevalence of corruption in the country.

"As we celebrate Madaraka Day, let us reflect how far we have come.

"We need to appreciate that self-governance was not meant as a means of creating opportunities for a select few to loot, we cannot pride ourselves and celebrate self-governance when corruption has become the norm," he posted.

Some of his followers were optimistic that the menace would be resolved promptly, encouraging him to pursue the cause started by the National Super Alliance (NASA).

Others were curious to find out why the Opposition leader had skipped the National Prayer Day held at the Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi, yet his co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga attended.

During the event, President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto extended an olive branch to their political rivals and called for unity.

DP Ruto went ahead to issue an apology to the Opposition leaders for any unflattering utterances issued during the 2017 campaign season.

Others still took issue with Mudavadi, asking him what practical measures he had taken to help in the fight against corruption.

Here are some of the comments that were shared with the leader.
