DCI Arrests 3 Over Fraudulent Government Laptops Tender

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Thursday announced that it had arrested three suspects over a fraudulent tender to supply the government with laptops.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the DCI stated that the individuals defrauded two directors of a Nairobi-based company Ksh15 Million shillings by promising to offer them a direct tender amounting to Ksh230 Million shillings.

The suspects Jackson MwondiDavid Nabiri and Geoffrey Odhiambo are believed to have approached the two directors sometime in July 2018 with a promise that they had a direct tender to supply the laptops and computers accessories to the Ministry of ICT.

The items to be supplied were 1,797 laptops, 2 computer software and other computer accessories.

"After negotiating, they agreed with the four suspects that since the tender was valued at Ksh230 Million, the suspects would get a commission of Ksh.15 Million shillings; 7.5 Million was given to David Nabiri in cash and Ksh8 million transferred to Jackson’s Account," the DCI disclosed in the statement.

After the payment was done, the four suspects disappeared and the directors later learnt that they had been conned and approached the police for intervention.

The DCI Director George Kinoti warned members of the general public against engaging in fraudulent activities that would cost them millions of shillings in losses.

Following the statement, Kenyans online also called for the arrest of the directors of the company arguing that they also engaged in fraudulent activities knowingly.

"Lock the directors also. They engaged in fraudulent activities and only cried later when played. Funga wao (arrest them)," one netizen noted.

Another added; "I think even the directors should also be arrested, that is straight corruption, if the deal went through, you wouldn't have arrested anyone and probably someone would have lost money, wote ni wezi (they are all thieves)."
