Matatu Touts Arrest Drunk Traffic Officer [VIDEO]

Matatu workers on Wednesday arrested a traffic police officer who was alleged to be driving while drunk along City Stadium in Nairobi.

The angered workers stopped the officer who was driving his car and took his uniform.

One of the touts climbed on top of the vehicle brandishing the clothes as a sign of displeasure with the officer being under the influence.

A crowd had gathered at the scene forcing the embarrassed officer to remain in his car.

The traffic officer was later handed to the Divisional traffic officers at Makongeni

This comes after the police carried out a crackdown on Monday that led to many matatus opting to stop their services for the better part of the day.

The move by the workers led to many people being stranded as they were not aware of the operation by the officers.

NTSA with the help of the police, stated that the crackdown was aimed to reintroduce the 'Michuki' rules.

Traffic Commandant Samuel Kimaru warned that no one including passengers would be spared in the operation.

"Wacha niwaambie mapema, hii ilifanyika Nairobi nikama warm-up, the storm is coming (Let me warn them early enough, whatever has been witnessed is just rehearsals, a full-blown operation is on the way)," remarked Kimaru.

Kimaru further stated that those who had complied with the rules had nothing to fear.
