Campus Girl Torches Ksh40M House Despite Lover Saving Her Life

A university student was on Monday, December 17, charged with reportedly burning down an apartment rented by her boyfriend after a bitter fallout.

According to a report by the Daily Nation, Rose Muinde, 20, a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture student at Chuka University, was accused of carrying out the arson on Friday, December 13.

The publication reported that the student burned down a house belonging to Peris Kariuki from the apartment occupied by her lover identified as Kennedy Kimani.

The fallout reportedly came about after Kimani attempted to restrain Muinde from committing suicide.

The two had allegedly fought in their house before the lady attempted to jump from the fourth floor of the building.

More drama unfolded during the incident as witnesses claimed that Muinde, after setting the house ablaze, locked herself in until she got pulled out.

Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Angelo Kithinji at Makadara Law Courts, however, she pleaded not guilty.

Muinde was freed on a Ksh500,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount.

The case is set for mention on April 23, 2020.

This comes roughly a month after a 22-year-old from the same institution committed suicide in his house at Ndagani Tharaka Nithi County.

“Dennis Mwiathi was very close and friendly to his parents and everyone around him and we do not know why he decided to commit suicide despite enrolling for a degree program this year,” one of his cousins told KNA.
