Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana's music project has been nominated for an international award contest.
The Makueni Recording Studios under the county government was nominated for the 2021 Music Cities Award.
Through a Facebook post on Monday, November 1, the governor announced the news on the nomination of the studios in the global award under the best initiative to directly support musicians.
“I am utterly delighted that the Makueni Recording Studio, a project by the Makueni County Government, has been nominated for the 2021 MUSIC CITIES AWARDS- best initiative to directly support musician's category,” the Governor stated.
The Music Cities Awards is a global competition designed to acknowledge and reward the most outstanding applications of music for economic, social, environmental and cultural development in cities and places all around the world.
The Makueni Recording Studio will be battling out with other international policies set up; musicians Fair Payment Policy and Musician’s Benefits Concerts, both in Canada and in the United States.
The public studio was completed in April 2017, with the first recording taking place on May 2017.
According to the Governor post, the studio has so far recorded, 467 singles and 73 full albums for 385 artists since its inception.
It has been of help to the local artists in the area as they offer free recording for all artists from or based in Makueni County.
“Makueni Recording Studio is a state-of-the-art facility that was set up to provide free recording services to the county’s local artists,” Governor Kibwana noted.
Among other recognised projects by the Makueni Governor is the enabling of senior citizens to enjoy free health services.
Kibwana, who is finishing his second term, has recently declared his presidential aspiration in the 2022 General Election.
