Meru governor, Kawira Mwangaza's, woes escalated a day after the county assembly was petitioned to initiate her impeachment.

Mwangaza, on Friday, October 28, claimed that her entire family was staring at a bleak future following sustained political attacks against her governorship.

According to Kawira, her husband, Murega Baichu, was allegedly banned from accessing the official residence and using government cars.

The distraught governor claimed that Meru County MCAs sustained their attack on her husband, further denying him vital marital privileges.

She was, however, adamant that she would maintain her management approach and was confident of emerging the victor in the prolonged battle with MCAs.

A Meru County voter, Thuranira Salesio Mutuma, on Thursday, October 27, 2022, accused Governor Mwangaza of gross misconduct and abuse of public office.

Mutuma, in his lawsuit filed at a court in Meru, claimed that Mwangaza contravened the 2014 Meru Revenue Board Act.

He also claimed that the governor unilaterally appointed her kin as the new general manager of the Meru County Revenue Board without due approval of the County Assembly.

Kawira was also accused of sending her husband to a donor's stakeholders’ function, a purview of state officers.

“On September 11, Kawira Mwangaza on her Facebook Page declared that she is not ready to work with other leaders since she is an independent governor,” Mutuma alleged.

“On September, 30, she unveiled her Cabinet that was in violation of Article 27 of the Constitution and Section 35 of the County Government Act No. 17 of 2012. Effect to this violation I wrote a memorandum and a sworn affidavit to the County Assembly of Meru Appointment committee, and I raised the said red flags," he added.

Kawira, however, claimed that MCAs were coercing her to establish a ward fund. She reached out to the controller of budget seeking clarification on the validity of the issue and also reprimanded Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for investigating her over abuse of public office
