The National Lands Commission (NLC) has issued notice to 20 landowners over the intention to acquire their parcels of land for the construction of government projects.
In a Gazette Notice, the commission's chairman Gershom Otachi said that the projects will include a solid waste management site and Itugururu Agricultural Training Institute in Tharaka Nithi County and the Gatundu Water Supply and Sewerage Project in Kiambu County.
The commission also listed the details of the parcel number, the name of the registered owners and the area in hectares that the county government is intending to seize.
Additionally, the owners were invited to view the plans for the affected land at the Commission's office at Ardhi House along Ngong Avenue, Nairobi or at NLC's County Co-Ordinator's Office.
For the construction of the solid waste management site in Tharaka Nithi County, the government will seize 17 acres of land from eight landowners.
The expansion of the Itugururu Agricultural Training Institute will also require 18 acres from a local company.
Those seeking clarification about the process were requested to furnish copy of identity card (ID), personal Identification No. (PIN), title deeds and bank account details at the commission's office for proof of ownership.
The government has been in the process of acquiring land meant for official projects.
Recently, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) recovered a 60-acre piece of land in South-B, Nairobi.
According to EACC chairperson David Oginde, the land was reserved for the affordable housing project.
This would comprise of 14-storey buildings consisting of 2-bedroom, 1-bedroom and bedsitter units.
He added that the land had been grabbed by powerful individuals who he did not reveal and the government facilitated the successful recovery through the services of the Asset Recovery Agency (ARA).
