How Gangs On Motorbikes Are Terrorizing Residents in Kisumu

Residents in Kisumu have complained of a gang in the town operating on motorbikes that has been terrorizing them for months.

The worst affected area is Mikosi estate in the town, that is said to have been taken over by the gang.

Reports indicate that several people have died while many more have been injured by the criminals who rob their victims of all their possessions.

In a report by NTV, Brian Ochieng, the latest victim, says he was attacked by the gang as we walked to work early in the morning.

He was left with a broken arm, cuts and bruises on his face and his body.

A family of one of the deceased's victim identified as Daniel Athaka, says the cuts sustained on his head when he was attacked by the gang led to his death.

Women alike, told horrifying tales of the attacks by the gang.

The robbers are said to be ruthless, using pangas and knives while attacking their victims.

They then flee the scene on motorbikes, making it hard for anyone to catch up to them.

The worrying wave of criminal activities by men on motorbikes has also hit other cities.

In Nairobi, robberies have been reported with the criminals said to have escaped on motorbikes.

The most recent incident that left Westlands residents shocked at the audacity of criminals, saw two thieves escape on a motorcycle while two were shot dead after trying to steal a car during the day.

Four men who were part of a gang that that had been stealing from motorists and making their escape on motorbikes along the Thika Superhighway were shot dead on Friday.

The rise of criminal activities conducted on motorbikes in Kisumu has led to talk of the ban of bodaboda operations after 10pm.

Kisumu residents now want the County government to assign more police patrols on night and early morning duties.
