Kidero Welcomes Waiguru to Politics with Blow

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has thrown a jab at former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru claiming that she used the National Youth Service (NYS) to empower herself politically.

Addressing the media at Mbagathi District Hospital in Nairobi, Kidero expressed concerns that NYS projects around the country had collapsed since they were being used as a political stepping stone for some individuals.

“Initially NYS took off to a slow start because that particular time, there was politics that it was being used as a launch pad for some personalities’ politics in the city of Nairobi and time is proving it to be so,” Mr Kidero said.

When hard pressed to reveal the personality he was referring to, he confirmed that he directed his comment to Ms Waiguru, adding that he would continue supporting NYS to ensure that it would not be used to build peoples' careers.

“When NYS is relaunched, I will be at the forefront so that the initial suspicions do not abound in that it becomes the launch pad of some people’s careers,” he added.

The Governor's remarks come after Waiguru announced that she was considering vying for the County's gubernatorial seat in the 2017 elections and that she would traverse the City to complete women and youth projects she had started during her tenure at the Ministry.

The move by Waiguru has elicited heated debate especially after Kidero sacked Nairobi's Executive in charge of Environment who had apparently expressed support for her.
