Nyeri County Assembly Speaker David Mwangi has sent President Uhuru Kenyatta a hard-hitting letter over his Monday speech at former Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua's burial.
During his address at Gachagua's burial, the Head of State castigated the ward representatives for making it difficult for the County boss to propel his development agendas by refusing to pass supplementary budgets.
Kenyatta's tough talk was prompted by complaints from the now Nyeri Governor Samuel Wamathai who took over after Nderitu Gachagua's demise.
In his letter, however, Speaker Mwangi maintained the Assembly will continue executing its mandate adding that Wamathai’s complaints were a political move to undermine the House.
"The outburst by the Governor was uncalled for and it is quite clear that it was a calculated political gimmick to portray the assembly members before the nation as uncaring, unpatriotic, and selfish people," he said
Mr Mwangi added: "The supplementary budget they are saying we have passed was only received on February 22 and it was committed to the Budget Committee the same day. The law should be allowed to take its course".
"Your Excellency I write this letter to assure you that the assembly is fully-sized of this matter and will in accordance with the law execute its mandate," he added.
On Monday, President Kenyatta and Opposition Chief Raila Odinga took a swipe at Nyeri's MCAs who were in constant disagreement with the late Governor stating that the main work of the ward representatives was to provide oversight and not hinder development plans of the County boss.
