Speaker Justin Muturi Saves Waiguru Again

National Assembly Speaker, Justin Muturi, has once again dismissed an impeachment motion moved by Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter, barring its introduction at the floor of the House.

Keter, who was seeking to introduce the motion to impeach Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru for the second time had already collected 180 signatures.

The Legislator had received support from both Jubilee and CORD coalition lawmakers, who were disgruntled by the recurrent corruption scandals in Waiguru's ministry.

Earlier in the day, Keter heavily criticized Muturi blaming him for frustrating his efforts to have the motion discussed in the National Assembly.

The decision announced by the Speaker, angered CORD MPs who walked out of the House in protest.

Keter claimed that Muturi was asking for more documents to substantiate his claims for CS Waiguru's dismissal. He added that he had already raised the required threshold of 88 signatures for the motion to be tabled in parliament.

He also alleged that the Speaker was serving his own interest by intimidating members to have them withdraw their signatures from the motion.

Weeks ago, a similar motion by Keter was thrown out by Muturi after it failed to amass the required signatures. Keter alleged that some MPs were paid Sh1 Million by the executive to withdraw their support.
