Waiguru Listed as Witness

The Sh791 Million scandal at National Youth Service (NYS) has taken a new twist after reports emerged that Devolution Cabinet Secretary, Anne Waiguru, has now been listed as a prosecution witness.

Investigators from the Banking Fraud Investigations Unit are reported to have submitted a file to Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Keriako Tobiko, listing Waiguru as one of the witnesses in the case.

Confirming receipt of the file, Tobiko said that he was waiting for another file on the same case from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) before making the next move.

“The file was resubmitted to this office and it’s true the CS is listed as a prosecution witness. We will look at the recommendations and evidence therein before making a decision,” he said.

Appearing before EACC on Tuesday evening, Waiguru through her lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi, reiterated her innocence maintaining her earlier claims that she was the whistle blower in the NYS scandal.

Nassir also hinted at Waiguru acting as a witness rather than the accused when the case regarding the NYS scam kicks off.

“We would like to emphasize on one issue, the Cabinet Secretary is neither a suspect nor an accused person. At best, she will be our witness to this matter,” said Nassir.

Waiguru has been under pressure from different quarters linking her to the Sh791 Million NYS scandal and alleged irregular purchase of equipment at her office leading to loss of Billions.
